Delphi MASH: Beware, the medics bite
I got this idea for a Transformers fic loosely based on the MASH tv show. The story focuses on a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH), Delphi, and the shenanigans of the medics and guards. And then an other idea got me. What if there was copious amount of porn in it. So, the idea was born. I don’t know where I can get to it, but I sketched out the base ideas for the characters and I thought I'd share them. After I'm done with my archival exam, I will get to it.
Anyway, character concepts under the cut. I promise it will get weird.

[Delphi sits down next to Lawson, pouring gravy onto her mashed potatoes.]
How much magic went into making all this food?
@delphi-sees-all
[Lawson looks offended]
None. Magic always leaves a small after taste. Barely noticable but I notice it.

you want pharma and prowl? I’ll give you pharma and prowl!! Them both as romantic rivals trying(and failing) to woo reader (gn, can be whatever species) cause they are both losers (affectionate) they keep trying to flirt with reader, but are so jealous and possessive they keep getting in each others way, which is not helping their image in front of readers eyes. Maybe reader is a secretary and has worked under both, and their personality(and bod) attracted them in the first place . Here’s your pharma and prowl <3
author’s note : YESSSS YESSSSS THIS IS THE CONFLICT I NEED. ILL GIVE YOU A SMOOCH FOR THAT IDEA ALONE ANON. I’m a sucker for these tropes on goddd. Also don’t mind me as I change it to a medic, since it’s more flexible for me to work with <3 possible three some later ;;)) also, whoo! This is a lot longer than I expected.
ONLY ONE WAY UP THE HIGH WAY
summary : prowl and pharma finds themselves as rivals when they pine for the same darling pet and thus the inevitable egos clash.
You hate rom-coms.
Now, you might be a hopeless romantic; delving and losing yourself in romantic stories, tugging even the most deepest heartstrings which gets you all giggly and kicking your feet. What you hate, however, are bland characters. A random, mix and mash kind of chemistry, forced with no substance, set up as a love triangle.
Which is, quite literally, what's occuring right now.
You see, you’re a medic up in Delphi for some time before being paired up as Prowl’s buddy-buddy partner, because Chromedome insists someone needs to look after that unruly cop who’s always destined get himself killed.
And so you do. Upon Ratchet’s introduction to the Autobot SIC he’s not exactly someone friendly. He's, ah, rigid and prickly, the know it all by the book, kind of prickly. His unresolved anger issues takes quite the toll wheb you tend his wounds or even so much as to touch his arm. Though, demure as you are, you know when to stand up for yourself when the situation gets out of hand. And this kind of resistance managed to ease down his sharp edges. Now, he’s still a prick, a tolerable prick more accurately, but you’re both good pals!
Or so, that’s what you thought.
One unassuming day, you were lounging off as usual in the main area, gathering your bearings after another tough match with the hoards of patients when your communicator buzzes with a ping. It's a message from Pharma.
An Autobot base will be set up here in Messatine at due time. Will be expecting your arrival promptly.
Ah, Delphi. How long has it been, seven years? Meeting your mentor again was something of a, well, it wasn't far from a dream. Wasn't really a need, either. But it's definitely something, at least. Besides, Prowl said he had to monitor the new crew in case they messed up the communication systems, again. So, you decided, with a hopeful heart, to follow along with the Coppa to Delphi.
Yeah, bad decision. Whomp, whomp.
That hospital might have it's up and downs, and while saving patients might not be it's strongest suits, it's decor are definitely a catch to mind. Goodness, since when did they have the funds to do that? The stark white of the tiled floor ( since when did they had marble designed pillars? ) embellished with grey, engraved carvings stumped your prior, blatant distaste of the facility.
It's safe to say you're surprised.
You're sauntering across the halls of the hospital, admiring the added features of new wards, machinery and nurses, when you bump into a wall that is, apparently, Pharma. Your, uh, very, very nice superior who you squint at your notes is definitely obsessively clingy BUT very smart , but also crazy. Like, mad crazy. Haha....
Why do you attract people like this.
"And, who ..? is this?" Condescension spools from his tone as he sizes up the Autobot SIC with a careless wave of his hand like he's some newly discovered specimen.
"Their partner." He makes sure to emphasize the 'partner' like it's a bullet. "The 'who', here is a Prowl."
"Oh, is it now. I didn't expect you to move on that quickly, dear."
"You're in a relationship?" You feel his glare on you; it's not a question.
"No, he's just—"
"Kidding! I'm only kidding." Pharma gives a hearty laugh. "My, my, officer. You know, tight muscles are a sore to deal with if you're not going to loosen them anytime soon."
"No thanks. I'll stick with a stroke."
"Ah, the ever so pessimistic. Pleasure to meet you then, officer. I've heard lots about you."
The doctor gracefully extends a hand to which Prowl ignores and then replies without much a look to him.
"If that's so, then I'm not very pleased."
The hand falls sharply, so does the smile.
"Oh, good,"
You swore you heard a joint breaking when he snaps his neck to your direction, and while you look away, you knew the chesire grin-like smile on his face is nothing but a threat.
"Very, very good." He straightens up. "How about a tour?"
Honestly, you expected the two would be more civil since they’re both so heads over heels about their reputations in front of another superiorly defined character. What you didn’t expect, however, is intruding in a tug of war that materialized from, seemingly, out of nowhere.
Right, the doctor insisted on an individual tour of your own. He suggested Ambulon show Prowl around, while he would take the pleasure of doing the same to you.
Obviously, Prowl isn't having any of that. So, you're currently between them, one arm in Pharma’s grip and the other in Prowl’s unrelenting grasp. You wince as their digits dig into your skin. If they're not careful, that's gonna leave a mark for sure.
“They already know their place around the medical facility, Jet-fuel. I’m sure they’re able to handle themself just fine without your guidance,”
“Oh, yes indeed,” Pharma, despite Prowl’s 100 degree glare, grits through his forced grin and yanks you back by the scruff of your collar, right into his chest, “I invited them here, I might as well show them around. If I didn’t know any better you’re trying to hog my staff.”
You know better than to voice your opinions. Their inner brain workings, all the cogs and mannerisms were already familiar; operating under their influence is like treading around a field of broken hards bound to prick you at any moment lest you misstep.
"Your staff?” The Autobot SIC scoffs. “Im not hogging them. It's long gone. They're not working for you, anymore. But I'm sure you're not aware of that since you've got a stick up your ass."
“Not quite, actually. Before they became your little pet—“
“They're. Not. My. Pet. I’d prefer it if you didn’t reduce them to some mindless animal—"
“Doesn’t matter. they’ll be fine. I know you haven’t you heard about this since you’re new here but Delphi has its new additions around the facility. I’m merely trying to greet back an old prodigy of mine back. In fact, they’ll be fine without you.”
"Oh, really." Prowl's up in his face now, grinding his dentas.
"How about you push my buttons and let's see where this leads?" Pharma taunts with an obvious tick on his under-optics.
That’s last week and you’re surprised when Prowl is frequenting your work station more often, always nagging you about your reports and how you ‘incorrectly’ structure them. That's strange, he never does that. Why is it only now he's bothering you about it?
When you asked him to take a look, however, he merely tosses it elsewhere and hands you his own datapad for you to look through. Of course, Pharma pops up round the corner and chastises the strategist for hogging his medic’s working hours. He says it's 'unethical' use of Power-play and authoritism and that Prowl should be locked up in jail.
Even worse, they’ve had this tug of war battle where they would try to ‘woo’ you when they can. You weren’t surpised; Pharma’s quite full of himself, so obviously he’s got territorial problems, even though you're not sure why he's so possessive over you. But later you realized he IS the entire problem. Not singular, not plural, he’s a walking embodiment of a complicated problem.
It gets worse when you're trying to do your work and here they are barging into your cubicle with another problem. At this point, you’re convinced it’s just a fight Pharma puts up because he hates sharing his pets. Now? He’s gotten too far down the rabbit hole to get up. For sentient robots who’s been through a war and back, they’re so damn petty.
Pharma’s idea way of flirting is more up and personal, he doesn’t care about your personal space and he never will. Brother in Christ, this mech does NOT leave you alone. AT ALL. He touches you whenever the time allows him to and you knew he's doing that to get under the lesser affectionate Cop-bot's skin, who finds physical touch repulsive.
Sometimes, you feel his hands up on your waist, your back against his chest as he leans over to regard your report, chin on your shoulder. If he’s feeling more bold, he often puts in his two cents of insinuating a quick session in the office which you, uh, politely decline because you’ve got a meeting with the new interns.
There's always another time, he'd jest. Yeah, well, not so funny. He’s clingy, obsessive and despite the charming suave-esque front of a Bond Villain he puts up, he’s easily the best person you can turn into a pile of seething venom.
“My little pet, I think it’s high time Prowl has his duties transferred off elsewhere, don’t you think?” His optics are twitching, and his unusually sharp talons pierce the metal desk. “ Not that I mind, that rancid Cop-bot has been getting in my nerves, recently. Wrong, this, regulations that. Can you believe it, he terminated half of my crew for, as per his words, carrying out unsanitary operations! Thats defamation! A false accusation. It takes a whole restraint not to shove him down the grinds of the accelerator.”
Please, don’t.
“He’s just monitoring the district, sir.” You maintained a neutral tone. He’s at your desk again. And, instead of trying to woo you into his bed he’s complaining. Oh, my god. I’ve got a report due tommorow. And you’re complaining. Someone, help me.
“Well, he’s not monitoring anything anytime soon with how much blood he’s leeching from your body. I should've known better than to agree with his demands to stay in your office as well. He’s stuck to you like a damn mosquito.”
Like, you're any better. You deadpan.
Prowl, on the other hand is aware and accepted the fact that he’s definitely not the most likable or the best lover kind of material out there. And, to take someone like YOU to like him, someone playful and fun, not ripping out his head every two seconds, is a blessing in and of itself.
He can't even stay a second around someone without pissing off their early descendants. So, with his glock locked and loaded he takes 'counteractive measures' to ensure that nobody is going to take that moment of happiness away from him. Even if in unethical terms he’ll have to ensure it.
“You’re been forty five meters off from your office.”
You let out a startled yelp, swivelling around to meet Prowl, oh thank god prowl, who's expression is pinched, lips pressed in a thin line and his hands are intertwined behind his back, military-like.
“I’m buying drinks,” You clutch the myriad of snacks and drinks in your arms, blinking away your pounding heart. “ H-how’d you find me?”
Prowl merely glances at the contraption on his wrist where, when you crane your neck to look over, is a circular radar with a blinking red dot.
“You’re to notify your disappearance when necessary.” He grunts out and turns on his heel. “Let me know when Jet-fuel decides to harass you again,”
Weird. Still, you brush off his disdain for the medic as nothing when instead his, ah, paranoia (?) goes on for months. That one instance youre in the bathroom? Yeah. Hello, there. I'm just walking. Totally not peeking. Totally not—
Is that a new sock?
"Prowl!"
"I'm checking if there are cameras here."
"It's a bathroom?!"
"All the more reason why I should ensure there isn't."
What's more strange is the fact that there's a blatant evidence of someone meddling with your schedule. And, you had an inkling their tug of war session travelled even to technological seams.
This rivalry continued on (despite, literally, the entire hospital's annoyance) until you eventually lost it.
It was a Friday night.
A party was held in the lounge. The younger mechs had set the celebration up to mark the lethargic end of July. Of course, since you’re invited to the party, the two came along despite not being known as party-dwellers themselve. So, it was quite a sight for the young mechs to see.
You thought they’d tone down the hostility a little and even warm up with how much time they spnd trying to one up the other. That's enough months to start a relationship, God damnit. Unfortunately, you’re not able to drink freely without the two mechs pushing against your personal space. Prodding, blabbering away about how skimpy your outfit looked. You're wearing your uniform.
At some point you drink in defeat, squished between their two frames as either tries to stop you from drinking your misery out while the other eggs you on with another bottle.
After the party they insisted dragging you back to their quarters. You’re not even halfway into your room when they start bickering again.
“Don’t you have anything better to do, Prowl?” His name is a venomous jab in the guise of a forced, seething smile. “Your presence in the hospital is unnecessary as the security guard up front. A mandatory monitor check doesn’t require you here all the time. If i didn’t know any better, you’re deliberately trying to distract them so they’ll end up in your berth.”
You hold back a vomit as Pharma nabs you into his hold, the alcohol seething your veins aren’t doing much for your psyche and you stare dumbly at the floor, wanting to retch over it.
”I’m checking up on my partner.” Prowl stands his ground then tugs you into his chest again, “Doesn’t have anything to do with you, Jet-fuel.”
“Oh, it does, actually.” Another tug back, “ It’s called harassment and I'm going to report to your superiors for pestering one of my medics.’’
“Your medic?” He scoffs. “You’re a sad sorry bunch who’s got no chicks up his ass. If I didn’t know any better you’re manipulating them into caving into a newly registered scheme. A play toy, plaything, exhausted for pleasure. Don’t think I know you used to work with the D.J.D, Jet-fuel.”
“Call me that one more time and I’ll ensure your processor isn’t he only thing I’m dislodging from that helm."
“Illegal malpractice of surgery is an offense. Is that a threat, Jet-fuel?”
“Oh, you’ll see, Officer. You’ll see just how skilled I am with my Servos.”
They’re both at already each other’s throat, servos clenched, door wings, jet-wings flaring and blasters at the ready. The Engex they’ve ingested earlier only prompted the hostile ambience and as they were about to—
“Why won’t you both fuck me already!?”
In a fit of annoyance, inebriation and stupidity, the three horsemen of your misery, the words left your lips before you even think. They stop bickering and it felt like forever as they did a 180 , full, joints creaking swivel of a ‘What did you just say???’ baffled expression thrown at your direction.
But you’re still seething and only then you’ve realized your slip-up, you’re a crumpled mess on the floor, palms wide and open, clutching your face that’s unrelentingly burning. Pharma looks like he's been kicked in the crotch and Prowl looks like he's seen God.
Kill me. Kill me. Kill me. Kill me.
“Both of us, hm?” You hear Pharma muse and whether or not Prowl is considering the prospect, all you want to do as of now, is to rot in this hole you dug for yourself.

GARUU[ガルゥ] the sound of growling. I think it's more commonly use as GARURU[ガルル] which you could basically romanize as "GRR" But that doesn't work as well with just GARU, let alone with the second U; what would it even be "GR~"?
TORAION[トライオン] I think it's supposed to be TRI like 3 and LION, but the RI/LI doesn't romanize well.
SPRIGGAN[スプリガン] the creature of Cornish folklore said to lurk about ruins and tombs,
WOLF[ウルフゥ]
MOUSSE[ムース] as in Chocolate Mousse
BATTLEON[バトレオン] At first I thought it was a play on Battalion, but that would be written, [バタリアン], so I guess it's BATTLE[バトル] and LEON mashed together.
HANGYORUU[ハンギョルゥ]from HANGYO[半魚]: "half-fish," a Japanese word for a broader family of mermaid-ike fantasy/mythology creatures, and GARUU
ZABEL[ザベル] It seems like it's ZAN + GARU but I don't know why the -BE- in the middle. It doesn't seem to make any meaningful word? It does happen to be the same as the name Zabel Zarock[ザベル・ザロック] from Dark Stalkers???
SHIDAO[シダオウ] the Japanese name for Shī tuó wáng[獅駝王] the Lion Hunchback/Camel King" from The Journey West
GOKUU[ゴクゥ] It's Goku again but as a unique Garu/???
CAPITANO[カピターノ] from il capitano, the role in the commedia dell'arte
OJIJI[オジジ] OJIJI[お爺] which is the honorific O and "Grandfather"
RUDRA[ルドラ] I can't find an image for this but it seems like it could be a reference to RUDRA[रुढ्र] the Hindu god whose name apparently transaltes as "The Roarer"? Which I can only assume is the association with making him a little lion guy?
THE-PUNCHER[ザパンチャー]
GIRON[ギロン] what like GUIRON the Gamera monster??? Or from GUIRO the instrument? I don't get how either would suit a pixie subtype though...
BECKHAM[ベカムゥ] ????
DELPHI[デルフィ] in reference to the Delphic Oracle of ancient Greece?
PICT[ピクト] like the Picts? The scottish indigenous peoples that predates the broader Gaelicisation of the british isles
KUSU-KUSU[クスクス] KUSU-KUSU[くすくす] the sound of giggling
KIJIMUNAA[キジムナー] KIJIMUNA[木の精] are a type of yokai in the Okinawa area said to appear like read headed infants living in the trees
LOUP-GAROU[ルウガルゥ] a kind of werewolf of French folklore
OCEAN[オシャン]
GOKUU[ゴクゥ] as in SON GOKU[孫悟空] Japanese name of the Chinese Sun Wukong, mythic Monkey King of the Journey West
SAMSON[サムソン] I guess from the biblical Samson and Delilah? Because he's a hairy little dude and Samson lost his power by having his hair cut?
PUCK[パック] probably best known from Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream, but generally from folklore in the british isles in various iterations.
BLACK-LEO[ブラックレオ]
LIONEL[ライオネル](ガルゥ+???)
SHISHI-OGRE[シシオーガ] SHISHI[獅子]: "lion"
SUN[サン] how was this not the Gali subtype???
PANTHEON[パンテオン]

12 for the fandom ask game !!
What's the funniest or craziest AU idea you've ever come up with?
Apologies for taking a bit to get around to this- had a very busy weekend and needed a day or two to recoup jdjdjddj
But Ouughghghgh you’re making me think here cause I’ve got so many in my head that have never seen the light of day djhfdjdjdj
It’ll all be under the cut cause I *will* be unapologetically neurodiverse about this vvv
A bit suggestive but nothing explicit - and not one of mine but is far more entertaining than anything I’ve come up with since I’m an angst whore™️ jdhdhdhr was probably a silly strip club au that an old mutual of mine back in 2020 brainstormed. If I remember correctly it was something like the autobots and deceptions ran competing strip clubs and of course the deceptions wore bedazzled and glittery speedos and booty shorts and were slay as fuck sjdhdhdh
There wasn’t much to it other than that, the deceptions slayed and that’s what I cared about most iedniencein
Otherwise-
My craziest (crazy in the sense that, this-is-the-thing-I’ve-thought-most-about-and-put-the-most-effort-in-because-holy-shit-everything-fits-so-perfectly-and-you-can-tell-this-is-peak-fandom-crossover-indulgence djnfjeehbd) is my TarnMaRat Phantom of the Opera inspired AU. Spoilers ahead for mtmte and Lost light just in case too.
I’m not the first person to see the parallels between the Phantom and Tarn absolutely not (there’s actually a gorgeous Tarn print I’ve found on eBay of him as Phantom that I will put the link to here), but I *might* be the first (still highly unlikely with how old this fan base is sjchdjdj) to see the parallels between Christine and Pharma and Raoul and Ratchet (and many other characters who I’ve found a way to weave them into for the sake of this AU jdjxjd)
For example, Christine is stuck in a ‘no-good-way-out’ situation due to the manipulation of a man who threatens those she loves if his terms aren’t obeyed. Very easy to see the parallels between Pharma’s situation on Delphi and how he had to steal t-cogs in order to keep him and his staff safe from the DJD. But even Christine’s deteriorating mental state throughout the musical is very similar to Pharma’s through out the Delphi arc. She’s a fairly isolated individual whose mainly only known the Opera for most of her life, she’s been trained to be the next big star by the Phantom and is pretty suddenly thrust into said position to the point she becomes very overwhelmed when things begin to get more and more complicated and terrifying with her understanding of her ‘angel of music’ and the world in turn. Just like how Pharma suddenly found the DJD on his doorstep one day and was suddenly a t-cog supplier to one of the most deadly decepticons and had to start managing how to keep supplies coming in, keep his staff safe AND possibly find a way out of said situation that might get him and the others out as safely as possible. Which causes him to isolate the Delphi station from everyone until First Aid calls for Ratchet. Also very similar to Christine, they both latched onto people from their past who they felt safe with, possibly thinking they could protect them or help them.
That’s only a taste of the analysis I’ve done of these characters cause I didn’t even get onto Ratchet and Raouls ego complex’s or Tarn’s obsessive behaviours over Megatron, that, for the sake of the AU, I switched up to an obsession over Pharma to better suit the parrells between Phantoms obsession with Christine eunceicheuhc
Instead of this au being a ‘I just put these characters in the other characters place so yay! The robots do opera now lol’, I instead took the same storyline and applied it to the Delphi arc and mish mashed things in from the Lost Light comics too. Honestly this would probably make a really good psychological thriller fic the more I think about it iendiencein
Some of this is still pretty wibbly-wobbly but the basic gist is that Pharma is still running the Delphi site but for a much longer indeterminate amount of time so he’s kinda known as the Doctor who runs Delphi. He was thrust into the position straight after graduating med school (cybertronians still have to go to med school for this shit right??? DJXJDJDJ) to match the overwhelming nature of Christine’s position as Diva. Delphi is also a much larger hospital in this AU with a reputation for 50% of its patients going missing/dying/etc, causing it to be severely underfunded, but somehow still able to run and operate. Which later when Ratchet pops around (since I’d like to think this whole AU would be from Ratchet’s perspective, again, very similarly to the Delphi arc in the comics, to increase the level of horror and mystique around Delphi) learns it’s due to the DJD’s involvement who have been uncharacteristically generous to the hospital. Which later Ratchet learns is because Pharma treated a mech by the name of Damus back in the day when the hospital’s mortality rate was much lower. A mech who mysteriously keeps appearing in hospital records for coming in for treatment of seemingly superficial injuries, notes specifying that he’d always request for Pharma, until these appearances just stop one day out of the blue. And the mortality suddenly spikes a few months later.
The rest of the AU is basically ratchet figuring out the mysterys of Delphi while also trying to find a way to get Pharma and co out of this situation as more and more important characters (sorry, Ambulon doesn’t make it in this universe either jcjdjdjd) are killed off by Tarn. With background Pharat and a one-sided Tarnma.
I’d love to do more with this AU in the future whenever my next bout of creativity is, I have so many feelings about them all🥺🥺🥺💞💞💞

When you’re gone, I practice for when you’re dead. You might be gone to the store, or taking out the trash or having a bath and I’ll pretend not to hear the car or back door or water draining the tank. I might be in the backyard and you’re inside, in the kitchen overlooking the garden and I’ll lie in the long grass, long because you are dead and haven’t cut it. I’ll lie in the long grass, counting bumblebees, to test how long it’ll be before I hear your voice, how long it takes for you to miss me. And when I hear you, I’ll imagine it’s from beyond the grave, telling the bees you miss me, not that the spaghetti’s long past al dente, and bordering on mash, and I’ll lie in the long grass missing you and wishing I’d asked you to show me how the lawnmower works or how the stove-timer works or how living in this house with me works. Lying in the long grass I won’t see you in the window’s reflection of the backyard, as you wonder what I’m doing and if you should start the spaghetti again or if you can change the radio station or the fan’s rotation from the angle set for me. Lying in the long grass, I’ll watch tips of green blades touch tree-tops and breathe with the wind and be present instead of time-travelling to when you mow the lawn, to when you say we should let grass grow wild for the bees as it was in Delphi, without pesticides, predators, or urban planning and I’ll try not to envy the bees their priority in your hive mind, the oracle of our time, while I lie in the long grass and practice for when you’re dead.

i love city campaigns honestly that’s my favourite ‘style’ of d&d game both as a player and a GM i love getting stuck into this specific location and these specific characters and factions and forces that make it tick and i love figuring out it’s weird idiosyncrasies and quirks and secrets and the politics and the intrigue and the sense of community….. also at least personally i don’t think city campaigns have to be 100% set within the walls of the city u know??? like the party can leave and venture out further afield but they’re always gonna come BACK to the city and they’re probably leaving for a reason connected to what’s happening in the city (or for personal character side quest shenanigans). i just. love them. maybe it’s bcus i’m FROM a city idk but they really are my bread and butter
#can u tell i’m planning a new city campaign right now#it’s pretty much a sandbox tbh i’ve not got a big bad planned or anything#i’m just creating the city (it’s a cool fantasy spin on a mash up of some ancient roman cities esp. venice and delphi)#and then naturally there are plot threads and mysteries and quests the players can choose to pick up and follow#and i’ll take it from there based on what they choose to get involved with

In This Episode:
LORE! We all love it, we all have it. It’s that cool secret sauce that makes sci-fi, fantasy, supernatural, or other speculative fiction so much fun to make theories about. How does this funky world you made up work? How do you keep it all consistent, and make it an interesting part of the story? Today we’re gonna talk about it!
1:50 How do you come up with the lore for your story?
You can find inspiration from different languages, like Krispy gathered a lot of ideas for locations, names, and religions and such from Greek translations.
When coming up with lore, you want to make sure you make sure it all makes sense and matches the tone you're trying to get with your story.
Another form of inspiration is simply mashing up things that you love. Claire mashed up some of her favorites (water, blue, spooky, death) and built her world to include those concepts. Thane loves white hair and pointy ears and funky magic systems so had to develop a world all of those aspects could fit into.
Writing a prequel or flashbacks for your comic can force you to develop the lore of your story. Often this is most beneficial in developing lore that directly impacts the main characters.
Another route to take is to establish the rules of the world that are set in stone. From there, you'll get to discover how your characters relate to that rule and how those rules affect the way society runs. It also helps to demonstrate things so readers can understand what is happening.
Now a lot of the time you want to figure out how all the lore affects things and connect, but it's okay to embrace the Rule of Cool and just go with it because you want it there.
28:10 How do you keep track of the lore that appears in your comic, and make sure it all makes sense?
Krispy has lots of handy dandy notebooks! Make notes of everything and how it intertwines to try to avoid contradicting yourself. Set a few concrete rules that you will always follow. Keep track of questions you get regarding the lore so you can reference them later.
Clam lives on the edge and keeps most of it in her head, occasionally dropping in lore specific pages in between chapters. A lot of comics have their own wikis that make for a useful lore collector. Keep it limited and find a few things you go VERY deep on.
Thane is an archeological dig of lore that keeps building and covering over the old as the new comes to light. Google docs or other cloud based services make for good lore to allow for access from multiple devices so you can make a note when it comes to you. Often what is in the comic becomes the only concrete lore.
Delphie opts for less permanent note options and uses a lot of scrap paper. If a block of text is intimidating, document the lore in a different way, like designing a travel brochure, or graphical poster. Document the canon and leave the rest to be swirled around before it makes it into the comic.
41:50 Can you have too much lore?
This depends on the type of story, the length of the story, and what type of lore. Application of the lore matters. There's no one size fits all.
If you're intimidated by the world building and the amount of lore you have, don't be afraid to tone it back or wait to establish it until its needed in the story.
43:00 Do you have any advice for creators about worldbuilding?
If you're unable to keep something straight, find a way to document it so it can be easy for you to keep up with. Make a glossary if you need to.
Use words that are similar to known words. If you're making up words completely, make sure you define it for your readers, and yourself.
Use your lore to build the story. Start simple and basic and build up to the complicated details.
Leave room for flexibility. Your story will often evolve as you go on and your lore may change with it.
Thanks for Listening!

Half-fae, half-human doctor Petra Robichaud has been working in a MASH army camp in Limbo for seven years, after being conscripted into the New Gods’ Army, in their endless war against the old gods. Her life is an endless cycle of patching up soldiers and sending them back out to fight again, though it’s easier when most of your patients have super-healing. Except when they leave it too long to come in and you have to re-break bones to put them back together straight.
It’s rare for one of the immortals to die on her operating table, but that’s exactly what happens with demigod Galen of Delphi when a cursed dagger splinters apart inside his body and Petra can’t catch all the pieces. Until Petra uses the ability she’s thus far kept hidden… because it’s outlawed and likely to get her killed, or worse, eternally tortured in any one of a myriad of horribly creative ways. She can see and talk to the souls of the dead. And as Galen of Delphi’s soul leaves his body… she grabs it and stuffs it back in.
Now she has to hope Galen doesn’t remember anything when he wakes up. And pray that she hasn’t just triggered the prophecy which will definitely get her killed when the gods figure out she’s the one prophesied to end the war.
This is funny and clever and I absolutely love Petra, who’s 42 and both old enough to be cynical and yet incredibly young compared to the immortals she’s living amongst. Galen, as a hero, is a bit hard to get to know as the story is told in Petra’s first-person POV; he’s a bit Practically Perfect In Every Way, but as I understand this is a trilogy perhaps we get a bit deeper into his personality in the later books.
The worldbuilding here is amazing. It’s a really huge concept and the author does a great job of spreading the necessary information out rather than doing big expository infodumps. One thing I especially liked is that there is no real good and evil; Petra is in the New Gods’ Army but it’s clear she has no high opinion of them. And realistically, any overlords who give their conscripts 20 minutes of accrued leave per year of service (and don’t allow it to be used until at least a week is accrued) aren’t exactly worthy of loyalty.
I feel like the romance here suffered a bit because there was So Much Plot. It’s really more urban fantasy than paranormal romance; there’s so much plot the romance is spread out over a trilogy and the declaration of love did feel very sudden because Petra and Galen hadn’t actually gotten to spend all that much time together. I genuinely loved the side characters - Jeffe the sphinx was my absolute favourite - and I definitely want to read the rest of the trilogy, but this does have some flaws, mainly with Galen’s characterization. I don’t think being solely in Petra’s first-person POV did this book any favours. I’ll give it four and a half stars.
The Monster MASH is available now. Disclaimer: I received a review copy of this title via NetGalley.

Years ago the Old Gods went to war against the New Gods over something relatively minor (isn't that always the way). Centuries later, they have the right to conscript any being of supernatural descent to the cause. A conscription that lasts for as long as the Gods have need of them... which for a mortal is a lifetime. Newly graduated surgeon Petra is just one of those unlucky supernatural descended mortals who gets picked -- and now she's been in the army for over seven years.. Worse, she's got an ability that has been outlawed by the Gods -- she can see the dead. Still, life isn't too bad at the MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital). She's got friends -- a vegetarian werewolf, a death-metal loving vampire, and a surprisingly innocent sphinx. Oh who's she kidding, War is H-E-double hockey sticks and Petra is right in the middle of it. When too-handsome-for-his-own-good Galen of Delphi ends up on her surgical table, Petra breaks all of the rules to keep him alive -- even going so far as to shove his soul back into his body. Now Galen knows her secret. A secret which has painted a very real target on her back. Because there's a prophesy about a healer who can see the dead bringing the end to the war -- and the gods really really don't want that.
This was a surprisingly fun genre defying book. It's like Urban Fantasy met Paranormal Romance and Romantic Comedy and had a threesome with this as the offspring. It's funny and engaging and sexy and honestly pure fun. The world is massively fascinating. All gods and demi-gods are valid and a lot of them aren't very nice. Supernatural creatures of all types exist from the usual shifters and vampires to sphinxes and souleaters. The world feels lived it... used. There's red tape and bureaucracy. Mini-dinosaurs are looked on as akin to sea monkeys. Every character has a past, a personality -- even if they're just a patient on Petra's table. I did feel like this was a supernatural version of MASH and that Clinger or Hawkeye would walk in with a quip or six. I liked that Petra wasn't a twenty-something... She's 42 and part-Fae. She's also snarky and stand-offish (with good reason). Honestly I really wanted more of the side characters... especially Jeffe. Jeffe was adorable and funny and l loved him. LOL
There is a lot of information that has to be imparted and while for the most part it was done well, I did feel at at times that it slipped into infodump territory. A lot of this is saved by the fact that Petra's character voice is so strong. She's very present even when she's imparting "as you know" information. There was a fun running gag of all of Petra and Galen's kisses being interrupted by something or some one. I found it funny. I found Galen okay. He was very cliched hero type.. he wasn't bad and I liked that he didn't try to force the relationship (he tried to force other things... like the acceptance of the prophecy). But he wasn't memorable in the way of some other heroes. I hope that changes in the other books. I did like that he was honorable and that his honor ended up being plot relevant. The problem I really had was that the romance felt a little rushed and thin on the ground. It wasn't bad... but I wanted more.
The plot itself was interesting... but oddly limited BECAUSE we were so present in Petra's head. The author made a very interesting choice to not have Petra be a part of what would end up being the major action because of realism and her role in the war. I thought it was a neat choice and that it worked... but only because to the care and set up that happened earlier. I appreciated that the author didn't give in to temptation and do this in a dual POV... I think it would have lessened the impact of several scenes and ultimately the novel itself. There were a few places that I felt would have been improved by having a bit more conversation/action. It was egregious enough (and I noted it enough times) that it lessened my enjoyment. I also noticed several comma faults and wrong words, which also distracted me. In all, this is a fun, fascinating Urban Paranormal Fantasy. I loved the world. I really liked the characters. I'm interested in reading more.
Four stars

Scorbus Anastasia au where Albus got amnesia after escaping death eaters and one day while working at the bookshop he was raised in he meets a boy called Scorpius who says he’s a Potter and can bring him back to where there’s still one Potter left in the family meanwhile Delphi’s looking to end the Potter bloodline for good starting with Albus
I know literally nothing about Anastasia but based on just that AU you’ve outlined? I’m so here for it. Does he get amnesia as a child so he grows up not knowing who he is or does it happen to him as an adult? Either way, it’s super interesting to think about who Albus would be without the Potter legacy and Scorpius. On one hand, a weight has been unknowingly lifted off his shoulders. He’s free to be just Albus without everything that comes with being a Potter. He’s safe to walk the streets without whispers and befriend strangers without fearing ulterior motives. But on the other, is he aware that he’s missing whole pieces of himself? Not just his identity, but the love of his family and the power of the friendship he’s left behind? I guess that’s why I love the idea of him finding a life in a bookshop so much. It’s a place full of stories which would suit someone who doesn’t know their own. I can just imagine him reading book after book and wondering if his old life was like the life in these pages. Did he have friends and adventures and his own library of books? Or maybe there were dragons and banquets and castles! That one always makes him laugh, but it doesn’t stop him from daydreaming. Which is exactly what he was doing when the beautiful blond walked into his shop and dislodged more than just the books on the counter. Suddenly he’s got his story and it’s overwhelming and full of complications and implications no amount of fiction could have ever prepared him for. I bet there are days in the following weeks where he longs for the quiet safety of his bookshop again. But at least here he has Scorpius now. He doesn’t know quite what that means but he knows what he’d like it to mean, and so he decides to write his own story from now on. Like I said, I have no idea what actually happens in Anastasia but I’m guessing they live happily ever after? Because Albus and Scorpius certainly do.
So! Funny story. I wrote that previous paragraph the day I got this message but I decided it wasn’t good enough so I bought a copy of Anastasia so I could watch it and properly engage with this AU. But honestly? I didn’t really enjoy the film. Sorry! I think as lost heirs go, I’m definitely more of a Tangled fan. So I’ll give you a mash-up of Anastasia and Tangled, swapping out the royalty aspect for magic and I’ll turn it into a ‘choose your own adventure’ because I couldn’t decide which route to take. Enjoy : )
---------------------------------------------------
I don’t like the idea of Scorpius as a con man. Instead he’d be a dreamer with a connection who’s still looking for Albus after everyone else has given up. He loves stories and myths but to him, Albus is a real boy. He remembers him. Grew up and lived with him inside those castle walls. He’s not a legend, he’s a friend. So when he accidentally stumbles upon him in the muggle bookshop he just knows it’s him. Except Albus takes a lot of convincing but as he learns about the Potters and the existence of the wizarding world, he finally starts to remember odd things. The book he used to read to his sister. The jumper that used to belong to his brother. His mother’s perfume. His father’s eyes. An actual castle. The boy who would sneak him sweets during class...
Scorpius never hides who he is from Albus. The best friend. The suspect. The shunned. But as they keep meeting to discuss his past (which of course neither of them secretly think of as dates), Albus doesn’t just remember his kindness. His sugar supplies. His knowledge of the secret passageways in their school. He also learns how he takes too much sugar in his coffee now. How he still sings some of his words and doesn’t care who hears. How his book recommendations make him question if he has a bookshop too. (He doesn’t. He’s just an uber nerd.)
But Albus is still a cursed child. Delphi is still out there with her augury sidekick, following them across the country as they finally make their way back to….
[If the Potters are still alive then read ONE. If the Potters are all dead and the only family left is Molly Weasley, read TWO.]
---------------------------------------------------
ONE
...Godric’s Hollow. Harry and Ginny never moved out of the cottage, even once James and Lily grew up and moved out, just in case Albus ever returned home. They never stopped looking for him. The stolen spare, the Daily Prophet calls him. But to them, he’s still their fourteen year old boy who went missing in the night. Although their clock says he’s lost, not dead, years of false leads have left them exhausted in every sense.
Albus still isn’t sure about magic and even more so when Scorpius explains it can be tracked, so the two of them travel like muggles across the UK. They survive runaway trains and dementor attacks but eventually make it. Yet Harry refuses Scorpius entry on sight. They can’t bear any more false hope and especially not from a Malfoy. The last person to see him alive before Albus disappeared from his dorm. He’d heard rumours about him trying to clear his name but showing up here with someone full of false memories? He’ll see him in Azkaban for this. It’s crueler than anything his father had ever done. But then suddenly Albus is right there. And as Harry steps back, his son steps forward. Over the property line and through the wards like only a blood relative could do. They take their reunion to the kitchen and process with tears and tea, but it’s the clock with his name on saying he’s home that finally makes it all sink in. He’s Albus Potter. He has a family. (He even finds out dragons are real and that one really blows his mind.)
The wizarding world is overjoyed with his return, but the fact it was Scorpius who found him only darkens his name with suspicion further. So Scorpius leaves so Albus can enjoy his family. Except everything doesn’t just fall into place for Albus. This life is as overwhelming as he feared it would be. He already loves his family but it doesn’t stop him from missing his bookshop and his cat, but most of all, Scorpius. Ginny finds him watching the crowd at his welcome home party and knows exactly what he needs. She tells him to go. That they are always going to be here but Scorpius won’t be. He hugs her in thanks and promises, then runs after the man who changed everything. He catches up with him just as Delphi finds them both. There’s a final showdown in which Albus helplessly watches as Scorpius sacrifices himself to save him. That’s when it happens. The anger over what had been done to him and what his family and friends had been through collides with the prospect of a future without Scorpius, and Albus explodes. He doesn’t understand it but he feels the power all the way down to his fingertips as it finds its purpose. She never stood a chance against the raw energy and emotion of a Potter fighting with his heart for justice.
Once she’s been stopped once and for all, Albus and Scorpius return to his bookshop and make a life for themselves. Albus never really uses magic again. What he’d felt with Delphi had scared him. He’d lived his life without magic and was happy to carry on doing so. Although he did immediately have a fireplace installed at his parent’s insistence. He grows used to his brother dropping in unannounced and disturbing the peace. He learns to expect his mother will always check in to see if he’s okay even though he’s an adult. He looks forward to visits from his nephews and nieces and even turns a corner of the shop into a child friendly reading area for them which is equally as loved by his customers. His dad kept his location out of the press but made sure everyone knew Delphi was to blame. Scorpius is free. But he never leaves Albus and the old cat and their bookshop. They live out their days surrounded by stories but loving their own the most.
---------------------------------------------------
TWO
...The Burrow. Molly Weasley never gave up hope on her grandson. Her clock never lies. His hand still says he’s missing, not gone. The rumours say she’s driven herself mad staring at it. But they don’t know Molly. They mistake her insistence as delusions which only appear to increase in desperation with each new false lead. Another green eyed boy who’s read a few books about Harry and wants the glory. But they never know what song her daughter sang to her children at night. They never know what her son in law cooked for them every Sunday morning. They never know his favourite place to read or how he hates pumpkin juice or when he got that scar on his elbow. The last encounter broke her heart for the final time. She decides to pack the clock away and refuses to see any more young men claiming to be her grandson. She’ll live out her days knowing he's alive and that’ll have to be enough for her. But then suddenly Scorpius Malfoy finds her while she’s out shopping. He says he’s found him but she stops him before he can explain. She can’t go through this again. Unlike the rest of the wizarding world, she doesn’t believe Scorpius had anything to do with the attack, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t unfairly blame him for surviving. He was sleeping over at the Potter house the night it happened. He had managed to escape in the chaos but somehow Albus had slipped through his fingers as they ran and was never seen again. She can’t look at him now without painfully reliving the what ifs. So she turns and walks away. That’s when she sees him. Albus is stood outside the creature emporium, gently stroking a small tawny owl. Just like the one he got when he was eleven. He’s twenty seven now but he’s still got his dad’s hair and small stature. He’s even got his own pair of glasses over those green eyes she hasn’t seen in over a decade, and when they turn to look straight at her she knows for sure. She takes them both back to the Burrow and watches as Albus walks around the kitchen. He looks at the pans which are cleaning themselves and the overflowing shelves of trinkets and moving photos and stops in front of his own portrait surrounded by what he presumes is his family. Scorpius quietly explains he’s lived as a muggle all these years. He didn’t come back because he couldn’t remember. Any of it. Molly’s heart breaks all over again as she walks over to Albus and tells him about them. How Ginny was fierce and Harry a hero, how James was brash and Lily bold. But the one thing they all had in common was how much they loved him.
The wizarding world is shocked by his return but the fact it was Scorpius who brought him back only seemed to give the rumours of his involvement some credibility. So Scorpius leaves so Albus can enjoy life with his grandmother. Except everything doesn’t just fall into place for Albus. This life is as overwhelming as he feared it would be. He loves his grandmother dearly but he misses his bookshop and his cat, but most of all, he misses Scorpius. Molly finds him on the sidelines watching the crowd at his welcome home party and knows exactly what he needs. She tells him to go. That she’s always going to be here but Scorpius won’t be. She’s lived her life and she won’t stop him from living his. Not after he’s already lost so much. That’s all he needs to hear and after a hug, he’s running after Scorpius. He manages to catch up with him just as Delphi does. There’s one final showdown. Albus helplessly watches as Scorpius sacrifices himself to save him and that’s when it happens. The anger over what had been done to him and the loss of his family collides with the prospect of a future without Scorpius, and Albus explodes. He doesn’t understand it but he feels the power all the way down to his fingertips as it finally finds its purpose. She never stood a chance against the raw energy and emotion of a Potter.
Once she’s been destroyed once and for all, Albus and Scorpius return to his bookshop and make a life for themselves. Albus never uses magic again. What he’d felt finishing Delphi had scared him. He’d lived his life without magic before and was happy to carry on doing so. Although he did immediately have a fireplace installed at his grandmother’s insistence. She checks in with him every day and their chats over tea quickly become one of his favourite parts of the day. Some of the others? Waking up beside Scorpius every morning in their little apartment above their bookshop. Listening to Scorpius read to the younger customers in their newly painted kids corner. Watching his usually shy cat snuggle up beside Scorpius like he’s known him all his life. It wasn’t what he expected, but he’s definitely found his family and his home.
